Mark Baird is a retired pilot, rancher, and volunteer deputy sheriff of Siskiyou County, California. The 63-year-old Baird is a big man with a rough, weathered face that is perpetually shadowed by the brim of a baseball cap. He owns the Yreka radio station KSYC-FM. He has presented declarations at the state capital in Sacramento to form a new State of Jefferson passed by the commissioners of each of twenty-one counties in Northern California.
